The
River Cottage is in a unique position on the "Silt
Jetties" - right on the Mitchell River, with
Lake King lapping at the back yard. BYO rods and dog(s)...and
a boat too, if you have one. But you don't need either
to enjoy the serenity of this unique location. Here
in our sunny and temperate micro-climate, easterly
sea breezes keep us cool in summertime when the inland
is sweltering. Our winter days are lovely and clear,
mild and still.

Only
50 steps from your front door to the private jetty
(with moorings). Boat owners can put their boat in
at the ramp near The Cut and motor the 3 kms downriver
to the mooring. There is plenty of room in the cottage
yard for your boat trailer. You'll never have to use
the car again - just motor around to Paynesville,
across Lake King to Nicholson or Metung, or up the
Mitchell River to Bairnsdale. You can also cruise
/ sail down to Lakes Entrance.

This
is the view from the jetty back to the securely fenced
front garden (for dogs of course). The bream "hole"
is 45 degrees to the east of the jetty. There are
plenty swimming around underneath too.....over to
you to catch the bream, flathead, luderick and mullet!
Up-river, around Bairnsdale, the river has brown trout,
perch, eels and even a few good bass.

This
waterfront (and water-back) cottage is perfect
for both nature-lovers and fisherpeople. The floors
are timber-look pine vinyl - perfect for holidays
and for dogs. Large new windows and double sliding
glass doors let in lots of light and beautiful views
over the water. The cottage has a wood-fired combustion
heater (with a wood pile out back) for those chilly
winter evenings which follow our glorious sunny winter
days. There is a modern bathroom and shower. You'll
enjoy the pure rainwater (from a 30,000 litre supply)
and solar-powered electricity, but you won't really
notice the difference to what you have at home. The
TV has perfect reception on the same 5 channels as
in the capital cities. There is one large main bedroom
with a queen bed and we can provide a comfy full-size
single folding bed for the lounge upon request.. The
lounge has two lovely 2-seater lounges and two armchairs
overlooking the water. A huge kitchen/dining area
with gas cooking and large fridge/freezer overlooks
the water as well. The large covered verandah also
overlooks the river and jetty, and there is a permanent
table across one side for outdoor eating. There's
a Weber bbq too.

on the Ninety Mile Beach too. Take your dog with you
to breakfast, lunch and dinner. Only ten minutes drive
to waterfront eateries where your dog is also welcome! There
are countless tourist attractions and shops, cafes, pubs
and excellent restaurants in the immediate area. All information
about the cottages and the Lakes area, plus detailed maps
to dog walks & swims, tourism brochures, menus and so
much more is contained in our huge information kit
-- on the table waiting for your arrival. Superb fishing
spots and boat ramps are all along the Silt Jetties, along
the Mitchell / Tambo / Nicholson Rivers and all around the
Lake system - only minutes from the River Cottage property.
Paynesville,
a 5-minute drive, is a lakeside resort town well-known as
the "Boating Capital of Victoria". The numerous
waterfront shops, cafes and restaurants overlook sandy beaches
and grassed picnic areas. Paved pathways, as well as bushwalks,
mean you can stroll for kilometres along the lakes and rivers.
Take the ferry 300 metres to Raymond Island and enjoy spying
on the 500 koalas.
Bairnsdale,
a 10-minute drive, is the main commercial centre for the
Shire's rural community of 40,000 people. As well as shopping
facilities comparable to those in any city shopping centre,
there are many craft & antique shops, a gourmet deli,
galleries, parks, fine restaurants and cafes.
